# Permissions

> Understand member access, bot permissions, and role hierarchy.

## Member access

Discord permissions and command-specific checks determine who can act. Some configuration commands require the server owner even when a member has Administrator.

## Bot permissions

Semetary needs its own permissions: Manage Roles for role changes, Manage Channels for ticket creation, and Connect and Speak for music. Channel overwrites can restrict those permissions.

## Hierarchy and custom rules

Place the bot above roles it manages. Owner protections and target role position still matter. Custom restrictions and fake permissions add bot-specific access rules.

## Command reference

Examples use the default comma prefix. Required inputs use angle brackets; optional inputs use square brackets. Each command notes whether it is also registered in Discord's slash menu.
